The Pope Sleeps on a Loom & Leaf Mattress During His U.S. Visit

The BIA select Loom and Leaf mattress for Pope Francis to sleep on while in Philadelphia.

The media has been quite busy reporting on the pope’s every waking hour.

Well, we are honored to be reporting on his every sleeping hour. Because on Saturday night in Philadelphia, each of those hours of papal sleep took place on a Loom and Leaf memory foam mattress.

It all began when Bedding Industries of America inquired as to the Pope’s preference. His Holiness, it turns out, likes memory foam. Firm, to be exact.

So to guarantee the Pope a silent night – an extremely silent night – BIA asked Saatva to build a queen-size Loom and Leaf relaxed firm mattress, made with laminated cooling spinal gel and a lush organic cotton-quilted cover.

“We are humbled and honored to be called to serve the Pope by providing him with healthy comfort,” says Ron Rudzin, CEO of Saatva, “The luxury mattress he slept on is fit for a king and for the everyday person too. It helped him be well rested and ready to greet the millions in Philadelphia.”

With the choice of Loom and Leaf, the media’s focus turned a bit to the Pope’s sleeping hours as well.

“Philly’s got your back, Your Holiness,” said The Washington Post.

“A heavenly mattress for Pope Francis,” mentioned Fox News.

We have always been proud to communicate the benefits of our eco-friendly Loom and Leaf mattresses. But maybe for just one moment, would we be justified in pontificating about them.

    • Hi Angel, sorry for the delayed response! We are in the process of updating our blog right now.

We are actually an online-only mattress company and don’t have any mattresses in stores that you can test out.

But we offer a 75-day in home trial where you can test out our mattress in the comfort of your home. If you decide it’s not the right mattress for you, we will come pick it up for you and you’ll be refunded.

If you have anymore questions, please reach out to us at 877-762-2882. Thank you!

    • Hi Marilyn,

Yes we do! Currently we ship our Loom and Leaf mattresses to the Toronto area. We will ship to bordering US ports if you want to forward to a non-Toronto location.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    • Hi Janelle, yes our Loom and Leaf mattresses work on adjustable bases and should work on that model. Please let us know if you have any other questions, thanks!

    • Hi Lorna, shipping fees depend on your zipcode but usually are $99(we don’t collect sales tax). The mattresses are made to order so delivery time usually takes 9-15 days and they are shipped through our trusted third party delivery service. They provide white glove delivery to your home and will set up the mattress for you. If you want your old mattress/foundation taken away, they will gladly remove it for a $39 charge. If you have any other questions, please let us know!

  1. I just woke up again with a sore back and am ready for a change. Two questions, if we, the wife & I get the king and I want to raise my side slightly to watch tv before sleeping would it be OK or do I need to just get twins.
My wife has had two back surgeries and is constantly adjusting her position while sleeping we’re concerned do we get the firm setting or the extra firm. How do we know which is better?

    • Hi Mike, sorry to hear about your back issues! As for the adjusting, either the king or two twins would work. As for the firm or extra firm, you can opt for the firm first and if it’s not firm enough, just exchange it for the extra firm within our friendly 75-day trial period. Or you could get one firm twin, and one extra firm twin and test out during the trial period which one works for you and just exchange the one that doesn’t suit your sleep needs. Please let us know if you have any other concerns or questions! Our company is always willing to work with you to make sure you get the right mattress for your sleep needs. 🙂

    • Hi Mike, if you want to be able to adjust each side separately we would recommend getting the two twin XL Loom and Leaf mattresses. Both the relaxed firm and firm will provide the same lumbar zone technologies in the horizontal center third. It would just come down to whether you prefer a softer or firmer feel What type of sleeper are you primarily? Back, side, stomach?

  2. I am trying out a purple mattress and I am finding that it hurts my shoulders. I am not sure what to do. I am considering a Saatva bed. I was thinking the foam/coil with pillow top. Im guessing I need a softer mattress due to fibromyalgia. My husband prefers a firmer mattress. Can you help me out any with this? Would the loom and leaf be firmer than the saatva coil and foam?

    • Hi Diane, sorry to hear about your mattress situation! Our Loom and Leaf mattress would be firmer than our Saatva hybrid mattress because it’s made entirely of memory foam. We would suggest consulting your doctor first on what type of mattress would best be suited for your fibromyalgia though.

    • Hi Diane, sorry to hear you’re having issues with your current mattress! In terms of firmness, our Loom and Leaf memory foam mattress would be firmer than our Saatva hybrid mattress due to the construction/materials of the mattresses. If you need more information, please feel free to chat with us online or call us at 1-877-672-2882. Thanks, Nicolle

    • Hi Andrea, yes our Loom and Leaf mattress will work on any adjustable bed. Please let us know if you have any other questions! Thanks, Nicolle

    • Hi Joe, we NEVER send returned mattresses to new customers. All of our mattresses are made to order — meaning each customer gets a brand new mattress customized to their specifications. As for the returned mattresses, we send those to charities we are partnered with. Best, Nicolle

    • Hi Bobbie, when you shop for our Loom and Leaf you have the option to just purchase the mattress itself or you can also choose a foundation($250) and/or a frame($89). You may also select to have mattress/foundation removal for $39. Please let us know if you have any questions! (more information can be found on our website: https://www.loomandleaf.com)

    • Hi Katherine, all motorized bases work with our Loom and Leaf. Please let us know if you have any other concerns or questions, thanks!

  3. I’ve been trying to decide between your King Loom and Leaf or the Saatva hybrid. Can you please tell me if the Saatva can be used with an adjustable frame as well and how much do each of the above mattresses weigh in the King size?

    • Hi Nannette, our Saatva mattresses do not work with an adjustable base but our Loom and Leaf mattresses do.

The Saatva king weighs 130 pounds in the 11.5″ version and 145 pounds in the 14.5″ version.

Our Loom and Leaf king mattress weighs 116 pounds. The 4.5″ foundation weighs 80 pounds and the 8.75″ foundation weighs 90 pounds.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, thanks!

    • Hi Rhonda, that really depends on your sleep preference. It’s difficult to compare our Saatva to our Loom and Leaf because one is a hybrid mattress while the Loom and Leaf is a memory foam mattress. It’s kind of like comparing apples to oranges.

But our friend Sleepopolis does a GREAT job at comparing our mattresses in his side-by-side comparison: https://sleepopolis.com/mattress-reviews/loom-and-leaf-vs-saatva-mattress-review/

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

      Happy mattress shopping,
      Nicolle H.
