With more than 10 billion donuts being made each year in the U.S., we think it pretty suffices to say that donuts are a BIG breakfast win. And with variations from the infamous glazed to the decadent bacon maple glazed, it’s a no brainer that they are a breakfast go-to.

Being huge donut fans ourselves, we couldn’t help but fall in love at first bite with this delicious healthy flourless cinnamon bun breakfast donut recipe found on The Big Man’s World.

What we really love about this recipe is that you can customize it. The donut recipe has two options: the original and the paleo version. And for the frosting, you can either opt for the protein frosting or cinnamon coconut butter frosting. Yum!

For this particular recipe, we opted for the original version and the cinnamon coconut butter frosting. We’re sure the other version tastes just as delicious but this was our personal fave.

Where to buy?

Great news! All the ingredients to make these donuts can be found at your local supermarket. You can even find the donut pan there too. We opted to free-form shape our donuts with our hands though so we lined a baking sheet with parchment paper instead.

Cinnamon Bun Breakfast Donuts


Original option

2 cups gluten free oat flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 T baking powder

1 T cinnamon

pinch of sea salt

1 cup milk of choice (we used Horizon)

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

6 T drippy almond butter



First up, preheat the oven to 350 and then line a baking sheet with parchment paper (if you don’t have a donut pan).

In a large mixing bowl, mix all the dry ingredients. Set aside. Next, whisk the milk, vanilla extract and egg in a small bowl. Pour into the dry mixture. Add the melted nut butter and mix very well until a batter is formed. **Make sure the butter is melted before adding!**

Next, spoon the batter onto the baking sheet lined with parchment paper. We formed the holes using a spoon. The batter is surprisingly easy to shape! Reminded us of being in a pottery class.

Lastly, pop them into the oven and set a timer for 25-30 minutes. You’ll want to open the oven sooner because it smells so delicious but don’t.



Cinnamon Coconut Butter Frosting


4-6 T coconut butter, melted

2 T granulated sugar

Dairy free milk, to thin out

For the cinnamon coconut butter frosting, combine all the ingredients. Use a tablespoon for the milk and add until a batter is formed. Drizzle over the donuts one at a time. And then dig in! Maybe throw in a cup of coffee because we all know donuts + coffee = a match made in breakfast heaven.
